It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug. Diarrhea is a common problem caused by antibiotics which usually ends when the antibiotic is discontinued. Sometimes after starting treatment with antibiotics, patients can develop watery and bloody stools (with or without stomach cramps and fever) even as late as two or more months after having taken the last dose of the antibiotic. If this occurs, patients should contact their physician as soon as possible. Symptoms should improve in two to three days after taking it; if not improved, the patient should contact her health care provider. Safety and effectiveness in children age 12 years and under have not been established in adequate and well-controlled studies. Appropriate fluid and electrolyte management should be done.
