Nitroglycerin, also known as glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), is a medication used for heart failure, high blood pressure, anal fissures, painful periods, and to treat and prevent chest pain caused by decreased blood flow to the heart (angina) or due to the recreational use of cocaine. [

Common side effects include headache and low blood pressure. [1] The low blood pressure can be severe. [1] It is unclear if use in pregnancy is safe for the baby. [1] It should not be used together with medications within the sildenafil (PDE5 inhibitor) family due to the risk of low blood pressure

Particular caution should also be exercised when using Glyceryl Trinitrate Spray in patients with volume depletion from diuretic therapy, severe hepatic or renal impairment and hypothyroidism.

Patients with early Myocardial Infarction, severe Anemia and Hypersensitivity to the drug. Some drugs that may interact with this drug are Amitriptyline, Amlodipine, Prilocaine, Sildenafil, Riociguat, Dihydroergotamine and Heparin.

It is not known whether glyceryl trinitrate is excreted into human breast milk. Glyceryl Trinitrate Spray should only be used after weighing the benefit for the mother against possible risks for the child. Nursing should be discontinued during treatment with this product.
